The Appolonia Youth for Development Association (AYDA) has called for the dis-enstoolment of their Chief Nii Nuertey Amobi II with immediate effect to foster development in the area.

In a press briefing at Appolonia on Tuesday, Mr. Harrison Noye Quarshie, Assistant Secretary of AYDA, revealed that, the Chief who doubles as the President of the Appolonia Divisional Council, has vacated the palace and had gone into exile for over two years.

According to him, all efforts made to get the Chief back to the palace had proved futile, adding that the action of the Chief was stalling development in the area

Mr. Quarshie further explained that, the self-exile, by the Chief had given some unscrupulous people the opportunity to sell stool lands with impunity, a situation he claimed was very disappointing to the people of Appolonia

He noted that people who had genuinely acquired lands in Appolonia were being chased and beaten by unknown land guards, adding, "I was even arrested over my own mother’s land by these land guards," he added.

The Assistant Secretary again alleged that, the self-exiled Chief Nii Nuertey Amobi II was engaging the services of the land guards to sell Appolonia lands and was being supported by some factions who had earlier fiercely opposed his installation as chief to the Appolonia throne.

"We have petitioned the paramount chief of Kpone and the Kpone Traditional Council on several occasions and they are in support of our stance, "he added.

Mr. William Tetteh Tettey, elderly brother of the absconded chief told the GNA that his younger brother who was enstooled as chief of Appolonia had disappointed the entire family and the town, adding that no one forced him to the throne but he willingly desired for it.

Mr Tettey further explained that, he feared his brother was under some spell which had given his opposers the advantage to control him and made him do things against his will.

He added that the Kpone Paramount Chief Nii Tetteh Otu II, had given them the direction and what to do as far as custom was concerned

We shall do whatever we can within the laws to restore sanity to Appolonia, he noted.

The acclaimed self –exiled chief was installed as Appolonia Chief on the 20th January 2014 and made himself available for three and half years before leaving town into exile paving the way for Nuumo Peter Mensah to be installed as regent to steer the affairs of Appolonia.
