... throws Accra Central into turmoil
Accra, Jan. 25, GNA - A wild rumour on Wednesday that a woman porter (kayayoo) had turned into a fowl after picking a 20,000-cedi note she found on the ground stirred confusion in the Central Business District of Accra with hundreds of people surging to various locations to catch a glimpse of the bird.
Large crowds gathered at the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit, the Cocoa Affairs Court and the Greater Accra Central District Police Headquarters, where rumours had said the fowl had been sent. One of the rumours that swept the Metropolis said the fowl had been sent to the Cocoa Affairs Court in a police vehicle, sending women porters running to the court.
Police personnel of the Striking Force Unit had difficult time trying to disperse the teeming crowd at the various locations. In the end there was no fowl and no "kayayoo".
Some members of the public who followed the story could not establish where the incident actually happened and who saw it happen. While some said the incident happened at Tudu, others said it happened at the CMB area within the Accra Central district, but someone told the police station was false.
The Police denied knowledge of a report of any "kayayoo" turning into a fowl and described the story as a "total fabrication." Police personnel at the Greater Accra Central District Police told the Ghana News Agency that no complaint had been lodged and said the fabrication was to create panic and confusion among the public. Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) W. Asante, Second in Command of the Striking Force Unit, confirmed that the story was false because they had not received any report.
He advised the public to be wary of fraudsters and people who spread false information to create public chaos.
