Some players at the Kumasi Sports Academy have resorted to working as ‘trotro mates’ after academy activities were suspended due to the coronavirus outbreak and ban on sporting activities, the Kumasi Sports Academy Ladies has disclosed.

President of the academy, James Asuming speaking in an interview with Rainbow Radio’s Nhyiraba Kwabena Asirifi said the coronavirus outbreak has dealt with them in all the bad ways possible.

He explained the ladies were better off during camping because the academy provides them with three square meals and other needs possible.

The break-in academy activities he lamented has become a burden on their parents who are even calling the academy to ask if their wards could return to the camp.

”The situation is dire and some of them are now a burden on their parents. Some parents have called asking us to have them return but I told them camping activities have not resumed. Some of the players are now ‘trotro mates’. They do this to survive the harsh realities the coronavirus has brought on us. The COVID-19 is dangerous.”

Sponsorship for female football he noted is difficult, making it expensive to manage female teams.

The break-in training he added will have the players under-perform.

When asked if he would support the resumption of soccer activities, he said that would be extremely dangerous and expensive considering the protocols in place for teams to follow.
