Member of Parliament for North Tongu who doubles as the Minority spokesperson on Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has expressed his dissatisfaction with the destruction of property belonging to the Nigerian High Commission in Ghana.

According to Okudzeto Ablakwa, the situation if not addressed could injure the existing friendly bilateral relations between the two countries.

In a Facebook post, Mr Ablakwa was hopeful that appropriate authorities would play vital roles in resolving the issue.

His post reads in part; “I have followed media reports of an alleged demolishing of properties belonging to the Nigerian High Commission in Accra and subsequent tweets from the Nigerian Minister for Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama…Very disturbing developments with possible devastating consequences for Ghana-Nigeria relations if not well managed with all the urgency required.”

He added, “I believe the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Parliament of Ghana will in the coming days play its role in contributing to an amicable resolution.”

In a series of tweets in the early hours of Sunday, June 21, 2020, the Nigerian Foreign Affairs Minister Geoffrey Onyeama lamented the rather unlawful demolition of a facility at the High Commission in Ghana.

He tweeted, “We strongly condemn two outrageous criminal attacks in Accra, #Ghana, on a residential building in our diplomatic premises by unknown persons in which a bulldozer was used to demolish the building.”

But in a bid to cease the seeming tension, the Foreign Affairs Ministry headed by Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey has announced the commencement of investigations into the matter.

In addition to that, there is heavy security detail at the premises in question.
