Chief Executive Officer of Hasaacas Ladies, Evelyn Nsiah Asare has lauded government for coming to the aid of women’s premier league footballers amid the difficulties the CoronaVirus pandemic has brought.

Government through its YEA programme will pay monthly allowances to female footballers who compete in the Women’s Premier League for the next 6 months, as announced by the Ghana Football Association on Thursday, July 2.

Per this arrangement, each player is supposed to be given a monthly allowance of 500 Ghana cedis with a total of 480 players set to benefit from this initiative.

Overall, government will support women’s premier league players and 20 other persons with a sum of 1.5 million Ghana cedis.

Speaking in an interview with Accra-based Asempa FM, Evelyn Nsiah Asare welcomed the news and stressed that it will ameliorate the financial plight of women’s football clubs.

“We are very happy that something like this has come for women’s football. At least the players will get something small, because it is not easy running women’s football, she told Asempa FM.

In as much as she expressed her gratitude to government, like Oliver Twist, Evelyn Nsiah Asare has requested government to extend the help to players in the lower levels.

“Government has done well that they have introduced this, now premier league players will get minimum 500 cedis, but we will be very much pleased if it is extended to the division one level.

“We applaud the Ghana FA and the government for making this possible,” she concluded.
