11th ANOCA General Meeting ends in Accra

Accra, June 19, GNA - The 11th General Meeting of the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) ended in Accra on Saturday.

The two-day meeting deliberated on the progress of sports on the continent and the world as whole.

The meeting was attended by over 300 delegates from more than 60 countries from Africa, Asia, Oceania and America and members of the five cities bidding for the 2012 Olympic Games.

Dr Jacues Rogge, President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) graced the two-day meeting, which has some of its highlights as the presentation of bids from cities bidding to host the 2012 Olympic Games.

The occasion was also used to elect a new President and Executive members of ANOCA for a four-year term.

Closing the meeting, Alhaji Aliu Mahama Vice President of Ghana, urged the newly elected executives of ANOCA to endeavour to sacrifice, whilst discharging their duties.

He said the power given to them is a call to duty and they must execute it with a lot of dedication to achieve the Olympic goals. Alhaji Mahaha, underscored the need for Africa countries to build a stronger front to make a case for the continent at the next Olympic Games scheduled for Beinjing, China in 2008.
