The astroturf at Madina Zongo will be the center of exciting and highly competitive football action as sixteen tribes from across the country participate in an inter-tribal tournament.

From June 29 to July 28, the tribes will compete against each other in a tournament aimed at promoting peace and unity among the various tribes in the country as the 2024 elections approach.

The competition, now in its second year, will showcase the best talents from tribes such as Frafra, Chamba, Gurushi, Kotokoli, Ewe, Zabarma, Akan, Ga-Adangbe, Bassida, Songhai, Ahanta, Bissa, Dogomba, Semere, Gonja, and Dandee.

The month-long tournament will kick off with a highly anticipated match between Zabarma and Dagomba at the Madina Zongo astro-turf on June 29, 2024, in Accra.

Awal Mohammed, widely known as Tinkler, the organizer of the tournament, told GhanaWeb in an interview that the ultimate goal of the competition is to highlight the importance of inter-tribal unity for the development and stability of the country.

He expressed his firm belief that the competition will draw the best talents from the sixteen tribes, who would seek pride and honor for their tribes while spreading the message of peace in their communities.

Ahead of the elections, Awal issued a rallying call to Ghanaians to protect the peace and unity currently enjoyed in the country and not to act as agents of destruction for any political party.

In terms of prizes, the winning tribe will earn GH₵7,000 plus a giant trophy , medals and set of jerseys, while the first and second runners-up will receive GH₵5,000 and GH₵3,000, respectively, along with medals and sets of jerseys.

Other mouthwatering fixtures to look forward to include Frafra vs. Dandee, Kotokoli vs. Basida, Akan vs. Songhai, Chamba vs. Gonja, Ewe vs. Bissa, Ga Adangbe vs. Semere, and Gurushi vs. Ahanta.

The winners from each match will advance to the quarter-final stage, with the victors progressing to the semi-final.

The final on July 28 is expected to be attended by members of parliament, religious and traditional leaders, peace ambassadors, and other influential figures.
