Eighteen children have passed a colour belt promotion test in Hapkido and Taekwondo programme organised by Chung Do Ghana Taekwondo and Chun Ki Do Association.

The third Hapkido and Taekwondo colour belt promotion test, was under the theme, "empower your child with respect, self-discipline and confidence”.

The children, between four to 14 years were made up of eight girls and 10 boys.

The children as part of their test were taken through mental concentration and information processing test, kicking target focus and kids safety test.

At the close of the test, 14 of the children were promoted from white to yellow belt, whilst one was promoted from yellow to green belt, with two gaining promotion from orange to green belt and one person from green to blue belt.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Raphael Sylvanus Akoto, Country Director of Chung Do Kwan Taekwondo called for an initiative to train people in self-defence by acquiring skills in Taekwondo and Hapkido.

He explained that such practices would help young people to protect themselves against aggressors and enjoy their rights to safety.

Mr. Akoto said the art of Chung Do Kwan and Taekwondo helps to promote self-discipline, increase self-esteem, encourage non-violent conflict resolution, improve listening skills and promote teamwork.

Mrs Benedicta Lartey, a parent, who has two girls in the club, in an interview said her children have benefited from self-defense and mental exercise to complement their academic work in just two months.

She urged the instructors of the academy to widen their scope so that many children, especially girls who are more vulnerable could benefit from the art.
