2002 Premier league kicks off this weekend

THE much-awaited premier soccer league will kick-off in grand style this weekend after weeks of apprehension and anxiety among the followers of the local game.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) was yesterday given the greenlight for the commencement of the competition after a Kumasi-based High Court had thrown out a writ filed against the FA by Adansiman FC to restrain it from going ahead with the league. With this obstacle cleared, hungry soccer fans will have their fill of the excitment and thrills which the opening matches promise to produce.

In Accra on Saturday, it will be red invasion when victorious Kumasi Asante Kotoko return home to confront Liberty Professionals in a tough duel promise to be a hot contest.

Crestfallen Accra Hearts of Oak will have the chance to appease their fans with an expected victory over visiting Bofoakwa in Accra on Sunday.

At Koforidua, another interesting match will be on when Maxbees and Power FC battle it out in a fierce local derby.

Obuasi Goldfields and Dawu Youngsters will entertain Obuasi fans at the Len Clay Stadium around the time RTU will be giving Mine Stars a baptism of fire at the Tamale Kaladan Park.

Last year’s FA Cup finalists, King Faisal, will be at home against Okwawu United at the Kumasi Stadium while Guinness gala lords, B.A. United, welcome Great Olympics to the Sunyani Coronation Park.

At the Sekondi Gyandu Park, Hasaacas clash with Arsenal in another hot match.
