2013 Cowbell Tour draws young and old to the streets

… As sprinter Samuel Anim retains yellow jersey

After warming themselves into the second phase of the 2013 Cowbell Cycling Tour, the 67 cyclists who made it from Cape Coast to the Oil City of Sekondi – Takoradi on Tuesday have managed to draw the crowds onto the streets.

Once again hard fighter and sprinter Samuel Anim of Young Stars did what he loves doing best to carry the day. Spotting the number 13 shirt on the yellow jersey, he managed to pull his colleagues to improve upon the time made last year to 40.2 kilometers per hour.

The top cyclist made a time of one hour, 59 minutes and 34 seconds to beat Francis Tetteh of City Migro and Henry Tetteh Djangmah of Die Hard club. After the race, Samuel Anim said his secret was taking the Cowbell products for his breakfast and dinner. He adviced sportsmen and women to take Promasidor products.

Mr. Mark Nkrumah, Marketing Manager of Pens and Plastics, producers of BIC pens, who are supporting the Tour noted that this year’s race has been very interesting after just two stages and was positive that there would be much excitement as the event moves to the harder phases where the cyclists test their strength and skills on the mountains and valleys from Assin Fosu to Kumasi over a distance of 145 kilometers.

Kwadwo Asamoah, a top official of Promasidor in charge of Communications expressed his satisfaction with the performance of the 67 cyclists who rode from Cape Coast to Takoradi and said his prediction of a Ghanaian challenging the best of the world will surly come to pass as most of them have shown massive improvement and now riding according to the rules and regulations of the sport.

Mohammed Sahnoon, Vice President of the Ghana Cycling Federation also said the cyclists have displayed real professionalism, though most of them are amateurs. He advised them to take the instructions from their coaches in good faith and avoid petty mistakes on the road as the race is now becoming tough.

The overall winner takes home a handsome prize of 7,000 Ghana Cedis plus a gold medal, certificate and Cowbell products.
