2018 Africa Armwrestling Championship launched in Accra

Ghana Arm-wrestling Federation (GAF), on Tuesday launched the 9th edition of the Africa Arm-wrestling Championship to be hosted by Ghana.

As part of the launch on Tuesday was the unveiling of communication team meant for the breaking of communication for the competition.

The event also involved the naming of the local organising committee was climaxed with unveiling of the official logo for the competition.

The launch of Accra 2018 Championship saw the presence of the Osu Matse Nii Kinka Dowuona ,Mayor of Accra, Mohammed Adjei and some other big brains in the sports industry.

Ghana got the hosting nod ahead of North African country Morocco after the Arm-wrestling Federation of Africa (AFA) considered the bid from the two countries.

The competition,under the slogan ‘Team Work Makes The Dream",is slated for the 26-29 July, 2018 at the Hathramani Hall of the Accra Sports Stadium.

Addressing the media,the President of the Ghana Arm-wrestling Federation (GAF), Mr. Charles Osei Asibey, touted the performance of the Federation, saying it is the "fastest growing sports in Ghana, apart from football".

"We at GAF through the support of cooperate Ghana and direction of National sports authority, have influence the growth making it the Fastest growing and the most talked-about sports in Ghana apart from football today," he said.

"Ghana as a country, we have one of the two world junior referees Africa has produced"



Host And Win Plot

Mr. Osei Asibey also reiterated the need to host and win the championship in order to prove to the whole continent we represent one of the best on the African continent.

The Mayor of Accra, Mohammed Nii Adjei Sowah, in his address to the media, expressed Government's preparedness to support GAF to ensure a successful host the competition.

He threw his support behind competition and stated that this competition offers government the opportunity to promote the City of Accra to the World which would help build the image of the country.

"This competition to be hosted in Accra is going to promote the City of Accra to the international market", the Mayor said.

"The AMA and myself have lend our supports towards the successful hosting of this championship."

"Throughout the competition, whatever support that the federation requires to make it successful, the AMA shall provide,"he added.

Nigeria hosted the previous edition where Ghana won 22 medals which represent the highest silverware won by any single federation in Ghana.
