Former Ghana international Joseph Carr says coach Kwesi Appiah has selected the right goalkeepers for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations to be staged in Egypt in June.

The 58-year-old named his 29-man provisional squad for the tournament on Wednesday.

The list consists of three goalkeepers namely Richard Ofori (Maritzburg United, South Africa), Lawrence Ati- Zigi (Sochaux, Montbeliard, France), and Felix Annan (Asante Kotoko, Ghana).

And according to the 1982 Afcon winner, he believes they are the finest shot-stoppers the country has heading into the competition.

''Kwesi Appiah has selected the right goalkeepers. All the three goalkeepers he has called are the finest we have now. For the players, they all deserve the call-up and I think they are all good for the tournament," he told Metro 94.1FM.

''The difference between our time and now is that during our time there were not too many professional players, but nowadays even 18-year-old players are travelling outside the country to play. Playing in Europe is entirely different from playing in Africa.

Carr continued, ''In 1982, we had no hope when we were going to Libya but with unity and cohesion, we were the eventual winners. If we tell the players to unite, they can also replicate what we did in Libya '82.

''The general captain must be the overall controller but if I was Akwasi Appiah, I would have not made this captaincy issue known to the public. I think if the general captain is on the pitch, he should be the one with the armband.''
