Karela United avoided relegation with a win
Karela United secured a shocking 1-0 victory over defending champions Medeama SC at Tarkwa Akoon Park on Sunday, the final day of the season.
The Pride and Passion lads needed the win to take control of their destiny instead of relying on other results.
Karela United finished the season in 12th place with 46 points from 34 games, while Medeama ended the season in seventh place with 49 points.
The first half of the game produced no goals, and the two sides headed into the break with the score still at 0-0.
Just as the game seemed destined for a draw, Abdul Basit emerged with a crucial goal for the visitors, scoring with just eight minutes left in the match.
With this win, Karela United avoided relegation, while Great Olympics, Bofoakwa Tano, and RTU became the three teams relegated.
Karela will be aiming to rectify their strategy next season after another narrow escape from relegation.
