Swimmer, Joselle Mensah
Ghanaian swimmer, Joselle Mensah, was unable to advance to the semifinals of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games despite finishing fourth in Heat 6 of the Women’s 50 Metre Freestyle event.
Mensah, who is Ghana's second swimmer at the Games in Paris, and was making her Olympic debut, finished fourth with a time of 26.81 seconds.
Elizaveta Pecherskikh of Kyrgyzstan won the heat with a time of 26.26 seconds, while Nigeria's Adaku Nwandu came second with a time of 26.62 seconds.
Mariam Sheikhalizadeh of Azerbaijan secured third place with a time of 26.76 seconds.
Shockingly, none of the top three swimmers in Heat 6 qualified for the next round in the Women’s 50m Freestyle.
The swimmers from this heat missed out on advancing to the next stage due to their times.
Mensah's performance marks the end of Ghana’s swimming team in Paris, following Harry Stacey’s unsuccessful attempt.
Stacey was the first Ghanaian to compete at the Olympics but fell short in the semifinals of the Men’s 100 Metre Freestyle event, clocking 51.12 seconds and finishing seventh in his heat.
Ghana’s swimmers qualified for the Olympics via wild card slots.
Ghana still has hope in athletics, as Benjamin Azamati and Rasheed Saminu have advanced to the semifinals in the Men’s 100m race.
