Ghanaian sprinter, Benjamin Azamati, has expressed his desire to make Ghana proud at the Olympics Games by progressing in the Men’s 100-meter race.

Benjamin Azamati qualified for the semifinals in the Men’s 100m dash after finishing second in Heat One with a time of 10.08 seconds.

The athlete, who was making his second attempt in the Men’s 100m race after his first outing in Tokyo, came second behind Jamaica’s current fastest sprinter, Kishane Thompson, who won Heat One.

Speaking ahead of his semifinal race, Azamati noted with excitement that his target at this year’s Olympics was to make it to the semifinals and bring joy to many Ghanaians.

“Anytime I put on the jersey, I am happy to do my best, so that was all that mattered this morning. Coming here and having that at the back of my mind and making the whole nation proud,” Azamati told journalists after his race on Saturday, August 3, 2024.

He added, “My first outing at the Olympics, I got out in the heats, so I made it a point to come out here and go into the semifinals. It’s all about thinking about the runs.”

Azamati qualified for the semifinals in the Men’s 100-meter race at the 2024 Paris Olympics Games alongside his teammate Abdul-Rasheed Saminu, who competed in Heat 5.

The two athletes will return to the tracks for the semi-finals on Sunday, August 4, 2024, at 18:00 GMT.
