The Black Stars' chances of securing qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations hang in the balance following disappointing results against Sudan during the October international break.

Ghana has been poor in the AFCON qualifying series, losing two and drawing two games from the initial four games.

The West African powerhouse's AFCON qualification chances worsened last month after falling short to Sudan in the double-header. Ghana played out a 0-0 draw at the Accra Sports Stadium, followed by a 2-0 defeat to their opponents at the Benina Martyrs Stadium in Libya.

The Black Stars are now on the verge of failing to qualify for CAF’s biggest tournament for the first time since 2004.

With two points from the initial four games, Ghana finds itself in third position in Group F and has a slim chance of making it to the AFCON tournament in Morocco.

Ghana now needs to secure wins against already-qualified Angola and Niger, while hoping that Sudan falters against these same opponents, to keep their chances alive for next year’s tournament in Morocco.

This means the Black Stars’ AFCON qualification chances now depend on Sudan’s downfall in the final two games.

Otto Addo and his charges have no option but to amass maximum points in the remaining two games and await the outcome of Sudan’s fixtures.

Ghana will travel to face Angola in Luanda on November 15 before playing host to Niger at the Accra Sports Stadium on November 18, 2024.
