Prosper Agbo, a 42-year-old cyclist beat over 100 competitors to emerge winner at this year's Cowbell Greater Accra Cycling Challenge held on Saturday.
The City Migro Cycling club sensation finished the race with an impressive time of two hours 57 minutes and 23 seconds to walk away with the ultimate prize.
Agbo walked away with a cash prize of GHC2000, a gold medal, trophy, as well as assorted products from Cowbell.
The 42-year-old made an incredible breakaway from the bunch and maintained his pace and resilience to cross the finishing line.
He was followed closely by Lawrence Agyei who settled for the second position and took home the silver medal and GHC1, 500, a silver medal and assorted products from cowbell.
The third position was taken by Frank Akuffo, who last year emerged winner, he took home a bronze medal, GHC1000 and Cowbell products.
Speaking to the media after the race, the winner, Agbo expressed gratitude to organizers and his delight after emerging the ultimate winner.
"I am very excited for winning and looking forward to subsequent competitions. It was an amazing event and believe we could improve if more of such competitions are organized", he stated.
The sprinter has the ambition of competing in the World Championships and also the Tour de France in future.
Brand Manager of Promasidor, Joseph Ashong said, cycling has a great potential if the needed attention is given to it by corporate Ghana, he added that cycling could be the next income generating activity for the youth”
The 100 kilometers cycling competition began at Lante Mamai at Chorkor in Accra through Teshie-Nungua to Tema and back to Accra through the principal streets of the capital before heading back to the finishing line at Teshie Mobil.
