$715,000 Fine: Check out heavy sanctions CAF imposed on Senegal

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has imposed serious sanctions on the champions of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Senegal following chaotic incidents in the final.

Several players, the coach, and the country’s football federation were suspended and fined large sums of money to serve as a deterrent.

In the final, refereeing decisions sparked fury among the players and technical staff of the Teranga Lions.

CAF bans Senegal coach Pape Thiaw for 5 matches, fines him $100K

Morocco were awarded a penalty, a call that pushed emotions over the edge.

In protest, Senegal coach Pape Bouna Thiaw was seen urging his players to leave the pitch. The Senegalese team walked off, momentarily throwing the final into uncertainty and stunning the crowd inside the stadium.

It took the intervention of Sadio Mané to calm his teammates and persuade them to return.

Some players were also spotted invading the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) area to obstruct the referee, breaching the regulations of the game and resulting in suspensions and fines.

Sanctions Imposed on Senegal

Pape Bouna Thiaw – Suspended for five official CAF matches for unsporting conduct and fined $100,000.

Iliman Cheikh Baroy Ndiaye – Suspended for two official CAF matches for unsporting behaviour towards the referee.

Ismaila Sarr – Suspended for two official CAF matches for unsporting behaviour towards the referee.

Federation of Senegal Football (FSF) –

Fined $300,000 for improper conduct of supporters.

Fined $300,000 for unsporting conduct of players and technical staff.

Fined $15,000 for misconduct after five players received cautions.
