9 Ghanaian teenagers make Glo Soccer Academy final 33

Nine Ghanaian boys have been named among the 33 finalist of the new Glo Soccer Acdemy to compete for places in the final 16 after the ultimate screening ended over the weekend, www.sportsinghana.com reports.

Only the 33 had to be chosen from a pool of 52 semi finalists who had made it all the way to the penultimate round since the screening began at Paa Joe Kumah Stadium in Kumasi on October 8.

14 year old Abagana David, Abaa Daniel (17 years), Aminu Murtala (16), Princewilll Owhormeji (14), Annan Klinsmann (15), Charles Addai Danquah (17), Bismarck Larbi (16), Collins Avare (17) and 14 year old Opine Mensah Samuel will represent Ghana along with 18 Nigerians and 6 academy mates from Benin. There was no goalkeeper or attacker chosen from Ghana which had 5 players from Accra, 3 from Kumasi and one from Tamale. Typically, 6 of the selected Ghanaians were midfielders with the remaining three being defenders.

In general, 3 goalkeepers, 8 defenders, 18 midfielders and four strikers were selected for the one-month camping at the soccer academy in Lagos under the training of celebrity coaches for one month. They will compete to be part of a final 16-member team that will play and train at the Manchester United Soccer School.

One of the final 16 will win the ultimate prize of the Most Valuable Player (MVP), a staggering GH¢60,000 (sixty thousand Ghana Cedis), and one-week training tour of Manchester United. The remaining 15 will all receive as much as GH¢12,000 each along with becoming Glo Ambassadors among other incentives. Billed to be Africa’s biggest TV reality show, the Glo Football Academy provides a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for young talented footballers to kick-start their career in professional football with viewers at home also in on the opportunity to participate in the process of selection and elimination.

The final 33 were selected after strenuous screening through nine zones from Ghana through Nigeria to Benin by the Academy’s technical team comprising among them former Ghana defender Tony Baffoe as well as former Nigeria internationals Tijani Babaginda and Victor Ikpeba.Credit:
