Ghana opened her All African Games campaign with a well-deserved win over Congo in the Women Volley Ball contest.
The impressive Ghanaians coasted to a 3-0 win over their Congolese opponent in Pool A.
The men’s volley team were however spanked 3-0 by Cameroon despite their impressive display in the tournament openers.
Also in the women category, Nigeria won three straight against Mozambique to announce their presence in the group in grand style.
A keenly contested 25-19, 25-21 and 25-21 won the game for the Nigerians earlier in the opening matches. A 3-0 win for the Nigerians pumped Ghana into life against the unlucky Congolese.
Ghana’s Mary Addai and Kokoe Bavon combined to score 26 points in an opening 3-0 win over the host nation in Pool A.
Ghana won the tie 25-11, 25-20 and 25-21 in a nerve ending 74 minutes of volley ball action.
Kenya held off Algeria to win 3-1 in group B ahead of the second round of fixtures.
Pool A: Ghana, Senegal, Congo Brazzaville, Seychelles, Egypt and Botswana
Pool B: Nigeria, Mozambique, Algeria, Kenya, Cape Verde and Cameroon.
In the men category, Cape Verde edged Seychelles 3-2 in a thrilling battle in group B whiles Egypt eased past Mozambique 3-0 to open their tournament.
Cameroon spanked Ghana 3-0 to open their volley competition in the men’s category.
Promising performances from the emerging Ghanaians raised hopes ahead of future matches in the tournament.
