THE GHANA Olympic Committee's (GOC) bid to unite the two supporters union - Supporters Union of Ghana (SUGHA) and the Ghana National Supporters Union to rally behind national teams, seem to be suffering a shipwreck following the Algerian Embassy unwillingness to grant the two groups visas.
The GOC thought it prudent and merged the two groups to offer a formidable support for the various national teams a few days ago, and like good news in the mouth of a wise man, it served as a good tonic to the entire sporting world.
Yet, revelations from the camps of the two Supporters Unions indicates that the Algerian Embassy is putting impediments in their way in their efforts to acquire visas for the Algeria Showpiece.
An insider from one of the groups told the Chronicle Sports that: " the embassy told us last Friday in plain words that a strong worded statement from a higher authority indicates that we are not recognized bodies."
The source added they suspect foul play from a higher authority who is stifling all their efforts for his personal interest.
"It appears there is a big man somewhere who is against the idea of the unification, hence this unfortunate happenings," the source said.
The Games currently underway in Algiers will see Ghana participating in 14 disciplines.
