African champions La Cote d’Ivoire had to come from behind twice on Friday to draw 2-2 with DR Congo in Group C’s second round of matches at the ongoing Cup of Nations.
Fulham’s Neeskens Kebano had opened the scoring at the Stade d’Oyem for the Leopards under 10 minutes but Stoke City striker Wilfried Bony headed home an equaliser a few minutes later. But the Congolese went ahead again before the break.
Astana’s Junior Kabananga gave them the lead for the second time in the game. It took Captain Serey Dié, the eventual Man of the Match, to secure another point for the Elephants. They had drawn 0-0 with Togo in their first game. In the second group game of the day, Morocco recovered from their Day 1 defeat to beat the Hawks of Togo 3-1.
Coincidentally, they recovered from a Mathieu Dossevi goal to win the match, moving them 2nd in the group.
Hervé Renard’s side will next come against the side he led to the trophy two years ago. The Atlas Lions will need at least a draw in that match against Ivory Coast to stand a chance of making it to the knockout round.
