AFCON winner Windsor Kofi Abbrey finds misplaced government reward cheque

Ex-Ghana winger Windsor Kofi Abbrey misplaced the cheque for GHC 18,000 received from the government as a reward package for winning the 1982 Africa Cup of Nations in Libya.

The Ministry of Sports presented a cheque of 1.7 million Ghana cedis to four generations of Black Stars players for winning the Africa Cup of Nations titles after previous failed government promises.

About 50 retired footballers were at the Ministry to pick up their cheque but afterwards there was a huge scare when Abbrey announced his cannot be found.

The other ex stars joined in the search for the missing cheque but the hunt proved futile.

But his misplaced cheque was later found around the Accra Sports Stadium entrance.

“At this point, I was totally shattered, I was lost, I don’t know what exactly to do because we have struggled all these years for this monies and I lose it just like that,” a miserable Abbey told Ghanasportsonline.com

“It got to my turn, I took my cheque and rushed back to the Accra Sports stadium to pick my bag because I was so happy after receiving the amount but I got there and realised I had lost my cheque.”
