Head coach of Division One League side Steadfast FC Abdul Mumin has claimed his side played much better than the 1-2 scoreline suggested after their defeat to Real Tamale United on Sunday evening in the NC Special Competition.

The home side went down 2-1 to RTU following defensive blunders in the early minutes of both halves.

Striker Abayase Moses put the visitors in front in the 14th minute after Steadfast defence failed to clare their line and were undone again 2 minutes into the second half as lack of communication at the back allowed Ibrahim Hassan Manlaya to hit the ball against Yakubu Hamdan and into his own net.

Though Steadfast came back into the game when substitute, Asolo Seidu Mariwan scored in the 65th minutes, they were never able to recover and despite playing much better in the second half, the 2-1scoreline was the only thing to separate the two sides.

“We played better in the second half than we did in the first half. I’m not seeing a team that is completely off its game, but we got it wrong in the first half when the difference between the sides was their level of quality,” he said.

“After the break, we increased the pressure, managing to do much better than what we did in the first half.

“But we will go back to the drawing board and work towards our next game.

Key Talking Point

With Tamale City comfortably winning against Gbewaa FC on Saturday, the pressure was on RTU to respond with nothing less than a win in this game, as fans of the Pride of the North were in numbers to cheer for Gbewaa FC.
