Abedi Pele and Michel Platini top the list of legends who are to attend Cameroun star Roger Milla's 50th birthday celebrations on May 14.

As well as Pele and Platini, Jean Pierre Papin, George Weah, FIFA boss Joseph Blatter and Germany's former World Cup star Karl-Heinz Rummenigge are among the big names invited for the Golden Jubilee of Africa's Footballer of the Century.

Milla, the Old Lion as he is fondly called, burst onto the world football stage at Italia 90 a time that was supposed to be the twilight of his career, coming from the bench to steer the Indomitable Lions to the quarter-finals. He attracted global attention with waist-twisting corner flag dancing when he scored. His next return to the World Cup was in 1994 when his Cameroun side capitulated out of the tournament, culminating in a 5-1 loss to Russia.

Before then, Milla had led local club Tonnerre Kalara to the African Winners Cup success in 1975, before moving to France for an illustrious professional career which took him to Monaco, Bastia, Saint Etienne and Montpellier.

Milla currently holds the role of Camerounian Sports Ambassador and he is a special advisor to President Paul Biya with regard to all footballing affairs. The celebrations will be held in the city of Doula, which is coincidentally where the 'oldest swinger in town' started his career.
