Ghanaians in Nigerian Premier League? May 5

Ghanaian-born coach, Phillip Boamah, is presently having an impressive season with Dolphin of Port-Harcourt, where he works with former Nigerian U-17 and U-23 coach, Musa Abdullahi.

The Port-Harcourt side, which increased their points-haul to 34 after last Sunday?s 3-0 pounding of strugglers, Niger Tornadoes, would be guests of Boamah?s former team, Julius Berger, in a rescheduled mid-week match, at the M.K.O. Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta.

In spite of the outcome of today?s match, Boamah?s Dolphin looks good to go home for the mid-season break as first round champions.

Boamah told www.ghanaweb.com in an interview that he is expecting a good result in Abeokuta.

It is interesting to note that Boamah was sacked at Berger some years back after winning the Nigerian League, but followed by poor results the next season.

Dolphin have 34 points from 15 matches, while their closest rivals, Iwuanyanwu Nationale have 26 points.

Nationale, which once had former Ghanaian internationals, Edward Ansah and John Benson on their pay-roll in the late 80s fell 0-2 to homers, Bendel Insurance, last weekend.

In another rescheduled match, defending champions, Enyimba, would be without their highly prized Ghanaian forward, Joetex Frimpong, who is nursing an injury when they play Niger Tornadoes, in Minna.

The match would have been an opportunity for Frimpong to play in front of some of his fans in Minna, where his parents are based and where he lives, but for the injury.

Asked about his inability to make the trip to Minna in a telephone interview from his team's base in Aba, Frimpong replied: ?It would have been a nice time for me to play before Tornadoes fans in Minna. Moreover, my parents and siblings would have watched me play because Minna is my second home. Any way, I know my teammates would do well.?

Frimpong?s Enyimba, placed 9th on the 18-team table with 21 points would also play another rescheduled match without him, on Sunday, when they travel to Maiduguri to play El-Kanemi, his last club before joining Enyimba.

Nigeria?s second Confederations Cup representative, Enugu Rangers, would also be without their newly signed Ghanaian player, Micheal Edusei.

Edusei, a defensive midfielder, who was acquired from Okwahu United, is yet to play for the Rangers ?A? team due to delay in his transfer.

Rangers, placed 13th with 19 points on the table will be at home to Shooting Stars of Ibadan.

Plateau United, which have Dansofo Mohammed, a central defender on their list would not be on duty this afternoon having played all 17 matches in the first round.

The team from the central part of Nigeria has 20 points after playing the maximum games in the first round.
