The chairman of the Premier League Board(PLB), Welbeck Abra-Appiah, who announced his resignation at the end of last season, might not have his intended rest from mainstream football activities as the Ghana Football Association(GFA) has compelled him to stay until further directed.
Abra-Appiah, together with his vice, Ashford Tettey-Oku have been directed by the GFA to stay in office in what appears as a fresh mandate handed them.
The two are the only ones on the board whose appointments emanated from the GFA and the decision to extend their mandate is part of a general one taken by the football controlling body to keep all its sub committees working despite the election of new members to the Executive Council and the Regional Football Association.
Interestingly, before the end of last season, Abra-Appiah had disclosed that he did not intend to stay on any longer and declared support for his vice, Tettey-Oku, to be his successor, but this will be coming as a twist to the unfolding drama even though it is not clear whether their mandate will run through the Premier League season, now tentatively scheduled to kick off on January 10.
The last elections had ensured the exit of prominent faces such as Fred Crentsil, a former vice president of the GFA, who also doubled as the coordinator of the national teams, Felix Ansong, who also served on the Emergency Committee and the Black Stars Management Committee, as well as Kudjoe Fianoo, a former member of the Executive Committee and the Black Stars Management Committee, among many others.
In the process some new faces such as Opoku Nti(CEO of Kotoko), Frank Nelson Nwokolo, a board member of Accra Hearts of Oak, Kurt E.S. Okraku(Dreams FC) and Delali Senaya have joined the fray.
These changes are expected to provide the basis for the composition of new membership for such committees as the Black Stars, Black Satellites, Black Starlets, Black Queens, Black Meteors, Black Maidens, Black Princessess Management Committees, among others.
According to the source, the mandate of these associations was expected to end in November, but had together with the PLB given extensions.
