The much publicised boxing arena facilitated by Godwin Kwame Ahiakpor, President of the Heart of Lions Boxing Promotions, and backed by a Kuwaiti business group is now headed for the port city of Tema, ALL SPORTS can exclusively reveal.
Ahiakpor, famousy nicknamed Victor Abramovich explains that the previously earmarked land donated by the family of GBA President Samir Captan in Accra, is not big enough hence the decision to look elsewhere.
And they have now found the land located in Tema Community One under the acquisition of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) and where a Children's Park and Library are situated.
Abramovich, in the company of the main financier and team were at the TMA offices yesterday to meet with TMA boss Kempes Ofosuware in order to finalise terms for the contract to be signed for the project to commence.
"All Africa I like Ghana, the country is safe and I also know they have big potential in boxing. There is an area in Kuwait called Tema. I am happy to meet you, I am happy to work with you and I'm ready to do the project.
"Once we sign the contract, finance is no problem. I'm ready to start this project now," stated Saud Al-Mass, the main financier who heads American financing and construction company CCCS International Limited in the Middle East.
Hon. Ofosuware welcomed the team saying that it was a very laudable project at a good location which is welcome but explained that they will have to be quick in commencing work because the land in question is a very hot property.
"The whole Tema, it is a prime area. so many companies, schools, over 30 applications we have received to acquire the place, people are competing to acquire the land. On behalf of TMA I welcome the delegation from Kuwait.
Let me also say that you are blessed to have Victor (Ahiakpor) as your main man. I used to be in the football fraternity with him and he did a lot for me finacially and many others. So you are welcome," the TMA chief, a former football administrator with former Ghana Premier League side Power FC, stated.
Accordingly, the financiers plan to build an ultra modern 20-storey facility which will inculcate the boxing arena, hotels, the rebuilding of the Children's Park with a clinic and library and many other recreational and business facilities including what will be called the Tema Mall.
Victor Ahiakpor also allays fears that the boxing arena will be isolated since many boxers and indeed the sport's enthusiasts are mostly based in Accra.
He told ALL SPORTS: "It should not be any problem. Many of the boxers are around Nungua, Teshie and Bukom which are all just across the road from Tema through the beach road.
"It shouldn't be any problem at all for us to all come to Tema for fights."
