Abura Bless Boxing Club inaugurated

Cape Coast, Sept. 4, GNA - The Abura Bless Boxing Club was on Saturday inaugurated at Abura near Cape Coast with an appeal to financial institutions and corporate bodies to lend their support towards the promotion of amateur boxing in the Cape Coast municipality. Mr Richard O. Lamptey, Secretary General of the Ghana Amateur Boxing Association (GABA) who performed the inauguration on behalf of Mr Eddie Blay, Chairman of the Association said government alone cannot provide all the logistics to promote the sport and urged the corporate bodies and financial institutions to contribute financially towards its development.

He appealed to parents to encourage their children to join boxing clubs since the profession is lucrative and would make the participants live healthy lives.

Mr Lamptey asked members of the Club to take their training seriously and desist from anti-social vices such as wee smoking and taking of alcoholic drinks.

He commended Mr Manase Asare, Director of the Club for his assistance and prayed that the people of Abura will give the Director the necessary support to promote the sport in the Municipality.

Mr Twintoh Walker, Chairman of the Central Regional Amateur Boxing Association in a welcome address appealed to the youth to register with the Club to ply develop their boxing talents.

Mrs Judith Manase, wife of the Director of the Club on behalf of her husband said she hoped that the formation of the Club would help to produce a national champion from the area in the nearest future. In a boxing tournament organised to climax the occasion, Western Region beat Central Region 2-1.

William Sulle of Western Region beat Abudu Iddrisu in the middle weight division, Shaibu Seidu also of Western Region defeated Isaac Cobbina of Central Region in the heavy weight division while Frank Soya of Central Region gained a technical knockout over Ali Abubakar of Western Region in the second round of their feather weight contest.
