Aburi, Nov. 14, GNA - The Aburihene, Otoobuor Djan Kwasi II has offered to release land to the Ministry of Education and Sports at Aburi to construct a National Sports Academy Complex for the training and camping of national sporting teams.
Announcing the offer at this year's durbar of the Odwira Festival at Aburi at the weekend, Nana Kwasi also accepted the appointment as the Chief Patron of the National Black Stars Supporters Union and promised to contribute his quota towards making the team's World Cup debut in Germany next year memorable.
The Odwira Festival was also used to inaugurate the local branch of the National Black Stars Supporters Union by the Minister of Education and Sports, Mr Yaw Osafo-Maafo.
Otoobuor Kwasi commended the government, the technical team and playing body for the honour brought to the nation for their qualification to the World Cup gave the assurance that he would follow the footsteps of the achievement and contributions of his uncle, Ohene Kwabena (alias Ohene Djan) and his predecessor, Nana Osae Ntifo Ababio II to uplift Ghana sports.
Mr Osafo-Maafo in his inaugural address commended the Supporters Union for embarking on the inauguration of branches in the country to mobilize financial and logistic support for the team. He assured them of the Ministry's support and called for dedication and discipline from the members so as to motivate the players to deliver more victories both at the African Cup of Nations in Egypt and the World Cup tournaments.
Present at the ceremony were the Minister of Presidential Affairs, Mr Kwadwo Mpiani, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr Sampson Boafo and Mr O. B. Amoah, Deputy Minister of Education and Sports.
