Accra, July 21, GNA - This year's Accra International Marathon will be held in Accra on Sunday, September 27.
Dr Anna Bannerman-Richter, Director of Fit For Life, a non-governmental organisation who announced this in Accra on Tuesday, said the 42 kilometre race which would start from the Ghanaman Soccer of Excellence at Prampram, would end at the La Pleasure Beach. She said the event, which is aimed at raising funds to support the life-saving mission of the Longevity Project, a local non-governmental organization, would be sponsored by Promasidor Ghana Limited. The Director said the primary goal of the project is to increase public awareness of the link between health and lifestyle choices and to support individuals to take responsibility of their own health. Dr Bannerman-Richter said about 1000 runners are expected to participate in the event, which was in its third year.
She said the participation of Ethiopian, Kenyan and Moroccan athletes in last year's event added some excitement and that it is the hope this year's event would not be an exception.
Dr Bannerman-Richter said renowned athletes including David Zigah, Millicent Boadi and a foreigner Abeba Agnew are expected to participate in the competition.
She said there would be free health screening and counseling after the race.
