Head coach of the Black Stars Avram Grant has denied reports Adam Kwarasey turned down an invite to play for the Black Stars, by claiming the player was not invited in the first place.
Kwarasey, is on 16 months self imposed exile from the Black Stars after passing a damning verdict on former coach Kwesi Appiah and current goalkeepers trainer Nasamu Yakubu.
The 26-year-old goalkeeper let out his frustrations of being substituted hours to Ghana’s second world cup game against Germany in Brazil last year.
The Norwegian born later claimed then coach Kwesi Appiah was coaxed into replacing him with Fatau Dauda while goalkeeper’s trainer Nasamu Yakubu lacked the modern skills to handle national team shot stopper.
But reports were rife that the Portland Timbers goalie had decided to make a return to the national team after a reported invite had been accepted by the player himself and his representatives.
But Grants speaking to the press after Ghana’s 1-1 draw game against Canada denied the player was even in his plans from the onset.
“There is no story with Kwarasey, NOTHING is the story,” the former Chelsea boss said
“He is not in the squad and he was not invited.”
“I don't know of any stories involving Kwarasey and if you say they are in the media, it’s the media you have to ask not me.”
Kwarasey has been in inspired form for his club Portland Timbers and currently hold the highest clean sheets in the MLS campaign this season.
