Adidas Apologises To GFA

Thu, 7 Mar 2002 Source: .

Adidas-Salomon, sponsors of the Black Stars kit during the 2002 African cup of nations tournament in Mali, has reportedly sent a letter of apology to the Ghanaian FA. This follows media criticisms about the poor quality jerseys that the Stars used during the tournament. The FA received the apology letter last week. The move by Adidas-Salomon is to win back the confidence of the Ghanaian FA.

The memorandum of understanding between the GFA and ADIDAS ended on 28th February and the FA does not seem to be willing to renew the deal.

The Ghana Football Association in accepting the apology tasked Adidas-Salomon to complete its part of the memorandum of understanding reached before the tournament by supplying the right quantity of kits.

According to an FA source, Adidas-Salomon had agreed to honour their part of the agreement by supplying the kits.

The Adidas deal came under media and public scrutiny after the expulsion of Sammy Osei Kuffour who complained about quality of the kits and the ink used in printing the numbering on the goalkeeper’s jersey.

Another issue, which was seriously questioned, was the controversial, changing of designs presented to the Ghanaian media before the team’s departure and what was worn during the tournament.

Ben Koufie was seriously condemned for his harsh response to questions from the media after telling the press he owes nobody an explanation about the kit deal when the team arrived in Accra.
