The Communications Director of the Premier League Board (PLB), Tamimu Issah, has said yesterday’s move by supporters of Aduana Stars to block a live telecast of their league game will not scare off potential sponsors for the Ghana Premier League.
Supporters of the Dormaa-based club on Monday 12 June denied official broadcaster StarTimes access to set up and televise live their league match with Kumasi Asante Kotoko.
This was not the first time the 2009/10 league champions had acted in such manner, as their fans resorted to a similar action in the previous season. The league has been running for two years without a headline sponsor and this act is perceived as a deterrent to firms looking to invest in domestic football.
Although the act has been condemned, Mr Tamimu was of the opinion that the action would not fend off prospective sponsors.
"I don't think this will drive away sponsors. It is an isolated matter which we condemn. And we will handle it from our point of view – we will look at it and advise for the appropriate sanction to be meted out," he told Class Sports.
Aduana Stars drew goalless against Kotoko to stay two points adrift league leaders WAFA.
