Aduana Stars ended the five-game unbeaten run of league leaders Ashanti Gold at the Oseadeyor Agyemang Badu Stadium in Dormaa Ahenkro on Sunday with a 1-0 win.
Nimble-footed playmaker Elvis Opoku netted the only goal of the game in the 20th minute after being neatly set-up by overlapping right-back Godfred Saka through a well-taken free kick.
Aduana dominated the game from the start to finish and could have buried the league leaders by an avalanche of goals were it not for goalkeeper Robert Dabuo. The stopper proved his worth with a series of excellent stops.
Ashgold started the game strongly with the likes of Yakubu Mohammed and Dider Kore making runs into the Aduana box, but they lacked the necessary bite as towering centre back Emmanuel Akuoku proved resolute in defence.
The win for the 2009/2010 Ghana League champions is their first over the Miners in five attempts and they are now just three points behind them in the league table.
