Accra, April 21, GNA - The African Hockey Federation (AfHF)
have received the draft logo for the forthcoming Hockey Africa Cup
of Nations, Ghana 2009 Tournament. The draft Logo was delivered to the AfHF secretariat in Cairo,
Egypt, by the Local Organising Committee (LOC) a few weeks ago
and was promptly approved by the continental body. The AfHF in a response letter described the logo as
"professionally designed that captures the aspirations of the
participating nations and affirms the already existing expectations for
a very successful championship to be hosted in Ghana. "This, in addition to all the good reports that have been received
about the accelerated projects in Ghana to meet all set deadlines,
suggests that Ghana is at the implementation stages of all the
programmes lined up towards the commencement of the tournament
in July', the report added. Magnus Rex Danquah, acting Chief Executive of the LOC in his
reaction copied to GNA Sports described the response of the AfHF
as positively encouraging towards their quest to host a successful
championship. He added that his outfit has appealed through the Ghana
Education Service (GES) to the Secondary and Tertiary institutions
and the entire Ghanaian populace to patronize the 11-day
international hockey fiesta that will be opened free to the public. "With such explicit confidence and trust displayed in our ability
to organize a successful hockey tournament for Africa, the LOC and
the Sub-Committees have an obligation to rise up to the standard of
the continental expectation". The acting Chief Executive of the LOC said the logo will be
formally unveiled at a media soiree at the end of April. Each of the eight participating nations will present two teams,
male and female categories for the tournament.
