Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin
The Member of Parliament for the Effutu Constituency, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, has said that golfing helps him think critically as a leader.
He explained that despite his tight schedule as a politician, he devotes time to play golf to relieve stress and engage with people outside his usual environment.
The Minority Leader in Parliament disclosed that people he meets on the golf course sometimes draw his attention to shortcomings in his leadership, which he reflects on to make improvements.
Basic golf rules every beginner should know
“It’s a game that helps you to think. It’s all about life. I’m happy playing with the pros and sometimes with caddies. It helps you listen to ordinary people. On the golf course, whether at Achimota or Bok, I get to hear a lot. Talking to caddies lets me know what is happening on the streets, their difficulties, their sufferings. Even as a political leader, they tell me where I’m wrong. If you open up, they share your strengths and weaknesses, and it helps,” he said in a video shared by UTV on X.
The Effutu MP urged people to venture into golf, saying it helps shape personalities by teaching manners and courtesies.
He added that the sport builds temperament and resilience, as players experience wins and losses and learn not to give up.
“I would encourage many people to take up golf. A walk on the course is a walk through life. You learn to be a true gentleman, to extend courtesies. Sometimes you get upset, but you rise again. Life is a journey, you fail, you succeed, you fall, you rise. I’m on that journey, and I won’t give up,” he added.
