Africa Baobabs, a not-for-profit organization in sports development in the country, has supported the Ho Technical University's (HTU) Students Representative Council (SRC) to rehabilitate a basketball court of the school.

The organization, led by Co-founder of Baobabs Africa, Bethold Paajoe Gadagbui, donated equipment for the rehabilitation works.

The items, worth GHC30,000, were handed over to the leadership of HTU's SRC.

A pair of fibreglass backboards and spring rims were among the items. The donation followed an appeal made by the school's SRC to the NGO.

PaaJoe is also the Secretary to the Ghana Basketball Development Fund Commission. According to him, "The donation was to honour the pledge they had made to do so after the maiden Volta Corporate Fun Games last year."

He also said, "We donated after realizing the infrastructure at HTU had not been upgraded for years. After this initial phase, we intend to bring local and internationally accredited sports actors to help sports in the region. Soccer cannot take all the sponsorships and hype."

PaaJoe added "Other games matter, and this is a clear example at the recently held Africa Games where a country like Egypt swept most of the prizes. Investment in sports, education, and entertainment pays big in other countries, and Volta, Oti, and Eastern region businessmen and women can support and provide sustainable jobs and opportunities for the youth."

The SRC president of HTU, Theophilus Binney, after receiving the items in a brief handing-over ceremony held at the school, thanked the organization for the support and promised to use them for their intended purpose.

"This is a great opportunity; we will ensure it's put to good use and serving its intended purpose. With this, our basketball team will bring more trophies home," Theophilus said.

He added that the rehabilitation would help to produce more sportsmen and women to feed the national basketball team.

Africa Baobabs is involved in the development of basketball, baseball, tennis, and lesser-known games.
