African Nations Cup qualifing draw: Ghana Seeded

JOHANNESBURG, May 1 (Reuters)(DS) - The draw for the second round of African Nations Cup qualifiers will be made in Cairo on July 27, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) said on Monday.

The draw will match the 21 winners from the upcoming preliminary round knockout matches with the seven group seeds, who have all been given byes into the group phase of the qualifiers.

Algeria, Egypt, Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa and Tunisia will each be top seeds in the seven qualifying groups, to be made up of three other countries each. The top two finishers in the groups qualify for the Nations Cup finals in Mali in 2002 along with the host country and the reigning African champions Cameroon.

The preliminary round matches, featuring 42 countries, are to be played over two legs in July.
