African Parliament welcomes Security Council resolution on Libya

The African Parliament has welcomed the UN Security Council resolution that reiterated support for the Government of National Unity and its Presidential Council.

The political advisor to the African Parliament's Speaker, Mustafa Al-Jundi, reiterated the need to respect and implement the ceasefire in Libya and withdraw all foreign forces as well as support the work of the 5+5 Joint Military Commission.

The statement called on political parties and people to rally around the Presidential Council and Government of National Unity to preserve sovereignty and regain stability and security away from foreign intervention.

The African Parliament reaffirmed the need for Libyan legislative authorities to facilitate and support the work of the Libyan Government of National Unity as it leads the country to general elections, reiterating the need for approving a unified budget.
