Obuasi, Aug. 6, GNA - Ama Afriyie Support Foundation, a local non-governmental organisation in the Obuasi Municipality has at the weekend organised a football gala at the Len Clay Stadium in honour of late President, Prof. John .Evans Atta Mills for his love and passion for sports and peace across the country.
The gala, code- named 'Peace Gala' was participated by 16 fan clubs and was also used to promote peaceful elections amongst the people before, during and after the December polls.
The participating clubs are Titans, Unity, Shaft FM, John Mensah, Brempong, Love, Amass, Harmony, Moni Pee, Brahabebome and Sika Dua Ase, Obuasi Youth, Golden and All-For- One.
Ama Afriyie, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Foundation, said the Foundation was poised to campaign for peace through women and children in line with the Late President’s wishes.
She said, women and children were the most vulnerable in the event of political violence, hence the Foundation’s aim of using them to sell the message of peace in the country.
Miss Afriyie, who is also a newscaster at Shaft FM, a local radio station condemned politics of insults and asked politicians and other party activists to honour the late president with the best peaceful environment for the conduct of the December general elections.
The winner of the gala would be made the Foundation’s Peace Ambassador to spread the message of peace in the Obuasi Municipality, by using sports and fan games among the people.
In the opening matches, Titans beat Brahabebome 2-0 while Obrepong also accounted for Shaft FM with 1-0 win.
