Accra, April 17, GNA - International Boxing Federation (IBF) bantamweight champion, Joseph Agbeko of Ghana will defend his title against Armenian Vakhtang Darchinyan on July 11 in the United States of America.
The championship, Agbeko's second defence since claiming the world title in 2007, is scheduled for the Bank Atlantic Center, Sunrise, Florida and has been commissioned by the Florida State Boxing Commission.
The Media Manager for Agbeko, Ebenezer Noye told GNA Sports that all the necessary arrangements have been finalized for the forthcoming bout which will be co-promoted by Don King Productions and Gary Shaw Productions, LLC.
Noye said that the chamion has since returned to his New York base to fine-tune for the clash with the Australia-based Armenian boxer. Agbeko (26-1, 22 KOs), is coming off a 12-round decision over William Gonzalez on Dec, 11, 2008 since after a seventh-round TKO over Luiz Perez in August 2007.
Darchinyan (32-1, 26 KOs) solidified his status as the No. 1 Super- flyweight in the world, and one of the top boxers pound-for-pound with back-to-back impressive victories over Jorge Arce last February 7 and Christian Mijares on November 1, 2008. The 33-year old southpaw nicknamed "Raging Bull" is also a former IBF Flyweight champion and so the fight is expected to be grueling encounter.
