Agbeko lands WBA title fight, vows to win by K.O.

Accra, April 22, GNA - Joseph "King Kong" Agbeko, former world bantamweight champion of the defunct World Boxing Federation (WBF) who had complained about the dearth of challengers in the UK since he arrived there about three months ago has finally landed himself a world title fight

In a telephone conversation with the GNA Sport from his East London base on Thursday, the undefeated Ghanaian said he has signed to fight Wladimir Sidorenko, a Ukrainian who now fights under the flag of Germany in a World Boxing Association (WBA) International title fight on May 18. He said the fray is billed for Ludeck in Germany and assured his fans that he would win convincingly and return home with the title.

"Tell my fans not to fear but to pray for me and I am sure the fight will not go beyond six rounds. I shall beat him hollow to show the big promoters that I deserve to be given the chance to fight for the real thing, he said.

Agbeko said he is enjoying the best of training at the Peacock Boxing Gym in East London and will put every new thing that he has learnt into practice to show the world that "there is nobody as tough and classy as I am in the bantamweight class."

On his relationship with Mr Tommy Okine, his local manager, the "King Kong" said they have mended fences and are in the best of affiliation at the moment adding that, "I have the goodwill of Tommy for this fight and believe it or not, Tommy and I are great friends once again."

He said he is in the right frame of mind for the fight, as Mr Freddie Annan oversees his preparations and provides him with everything to make him comfortable and concentrate on the task ahead.

"Mr Annan has been very helpful to me since I arrived in London and now that the contract for this fight has been signed, he makes sure that I do not lack anything.

"He arranges to get me to the gym in time and makes sure that nothing distracts my attention from our objective," he said.

Last month, Agbeko complained about the lack of opposition for him in the UK, citing cowardice on the part of boxers in his division who chicken out of the cards after going through his records and watching clips of his previous fights.
