Ahiakpor promises new lease of life for Ghana boxing

Accra, Sept. 26, GNA - Victor Ahiakpor, Founder and bankroller of Kpando Heart of Lions Football Club has promised a new lease of life for boxing in the country upon his entry into the sport. He will make his debut in Ghana's boxing promotion when his outfit, Heart of Lions Boxing Promotions rolls out 93The Night of only the Strong= " on Saturday, October 8 at the Lebanon House, Accra.

At a press conference on Monday to launch the various bouts, Ahiakpor said his decision to veer into boxing was motivated by the inadequate support for the enormous talents abound across the country. Ahiakpor said he came on board to help salvage the sport, which he noted was gradually experiencing a nosedive.

"I have so much love for boxing and being the only sport second to football, I have come on board to reposition Ghana boxing at its right place. This will be my first promotion and it is going to be different. "I want to contribute my quota to Ghana boxing as I am very much convinced that Ghana can go places if boxing is given the necessary attention." Ahiapkor noted that there are potential world champions in the country who can achieve their dreams if they are accorded with the support by outfits such as his and others by organizing regular championships to keep them in shape. "I will produce a world champion. I urge all to come on board to support the Ghana Boxing Authority revive boxing in the country." Ahene Truly, Vice Chairman of the Ghana Boxing Authority commended Ahiakpor on the initiative to venture into boxing and pledged his outfit'= s support to ensure the programme achieve its objective. Ghanaian Osumanu Akaba will face Beninois Theodore Lokossou for the vacant World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Africa Super Featherweight title in the topmost attraction.
