Akonnor, David Duncan, Tanko, others light up social media with #Stayhomechallenge

Set your camera, say a few words, juggle the ball for at least ten touches, throw a challenge to another person and you are good to go.

It’s simple yet powerful. It’s playful yet carries the weight required to make the intended impact.

This how the some of the country’s ex and active footballers, journalists and club administrators are contributing to the awareness creation about the coronavirus.

They may not have the wealth of the Jack Ma’s, Danogtes and Shatta Wales to buy test kits or hundreds of hands sanitizers but in their own little way they are impacting the sensitization campaign.

With their followership which averages over 1,000 these persons and institutions are in various ways playing their role in controlling the spread of the virus.

With their StayAtHome campaign, they are reaching out to others to obey the simple rule of staying at home, observing the social distancing protocol and adhering to the set rules by the health professionals.

A visit to the GFA’s official account reveals a tall list of current Black Stars players encouraging Ghanaians to remain positive in the face of the storm and also preaching the important information of educating the public on preventive measures.

Black Stars CK Akonnor and ex-Ghana Star Tony Baffoe are using their social media prominence to reach to others.

Journalists Michael Oti Adjei and Saddick Adams are on it too. Aside sharing their videos throwing challenges to fellow journalists, they also keep retweeting others to enhance the reach of the message.

Legon Cities, Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko have had their handles flooded with videos from some of their players making appeals to the Ghanaian populace to conform to the directives of the government.

From Partey to Duncan to Baba Rahman loads of messages keep flooding in from the current players with similar messages.

It’s crisis period, the nation is at war and if Ghana is to win this difficult football match, an all hands on deck approach is required and the football fraternity has shown its readiness to strike the virus and defend the lives of Ghanaians.
