Contrary to an announcement by an aide to the Sports Minister of a two-year contract signed by Black Stars Akonnor, it appears there still remain unresolved issues.

Kofi Asare Brako over the weekend revealed a two-year $25,000 monthly deal for Akonnor who was handed the job earlier this year after the FA failed to renew the contract of Kwasi Appiah.

Graphic Sports is, however, reporting a dramatic twist in the negotiations after Sports Minister, Isaac Asiamah unilaterally suspended the official signing of the contract.

According to the state-owned newspaper the contract signing has been placed on ice until further notice with sources indicating the coronavirus pandemic as the possible trigger of the Minister’s move.

Additionally, the $25,000 monthly offer has suffered a $5,000 reduction by the Ghana Football Association.

Another contentious issue dragging conclusions on the matter is the signing on fee.

Per the report, Akonnor demanded $100,000 which is 50% of the amount paid to his predecessor, Kwasi Appiah.

But the FA after consultations with the GNPC and government offered to pay Akonnor $50,000. The figure is said to have irked Akonnor who feels he deserves more and not being given the respect Kwasi Appiah received.

Despite being handed an appointment letter by the FA, Akonnor is yet to receive a penny as salary. His two-year contract is said to have a six-month probation period which raises questions about the trust and belief the FA and government have in the former Kotoko gaffer.

But for the pandemic, Akonnor would have played his first two matches last month.
