Ghana’s Alex Amankwah has his eyes set on becoming the country’s first athlete to win an 800 metres gold medal at the world stage.

The 25-year-old recently sealed qualification to participate at the upcoming IAAF World Athletics Championship in London.

“When it comes to track, I train hard, I work hard to win. I don’t go out there to come second or third, I want to go out there and win,” Alex said.

“But I also do understand that there is a process and it takes time for these things to happen and I can only control the efforts that I bring in and my preparation, so I’m going to prepare the best [way] I can and I will go out there and leave whatever I have on the track,” the middle distance runner added.

Ghana boasts of two medals, in the history of the competition. But Amankwah insists he is working hard to redeem his Olympics disappointment.

He is among four Ghanaian athletes who have so far made the qualification marks to represent the country at the London championship in August.

Hon. Saeed however called for the withdrawal of the military and police personnel from the area to ensure peace in the district.
