Ali Jarrah honoured by Fire Service

Former U-17 national team goalkeeper Ali Jarrah has received a citation and a fire axe from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) for excellence in the discharge of his duties while an officer.

Jarrah joined the Service in 1989 as a Station Officer One but national team duties in 1991 beckoned.

Disaster struck as he was rendered immobile by an ailment after having achieved several accolades including helping Ghana win the 1991 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Italy.

He was also named Best Local Goalkeeper in 1993 when he was with Accra Hearts of Oak.

Jarrah recently expressed disappointment on his Facebook page about friends and family relations whom he accused of abandoning him.

He is currently the coach of the Black Challenged and has, before then, trained a number of national team goalies with his goalies' academy, the first of its kind in the country.

The ceremony at the National Headquarters of the Service on Friday brought smiles to the national hero.

“I am most grateful to be honoured and whatever you do in this world, you must do it well,” he told journalists.

“You might not know who is watching you so it is good to do whatever you are doing well.”

Vice President Paa Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur was also decorated with an honorary chief fire officer title for his meritorious contribution to the operations of the Service.
