All Star Veterans Show Class

Mon, 6 Oct 2003 Source: Pascal Atta-Fynn

After 7 the all-star basketball veterans making their team debut in this year's league showed class in this weekends matches when they outclassed Warriors 73 - 56. After 7 played a simple passing game with most of their point coming from the paint (as usual) thus putting a lot of pressure defensively on Warriors' big men. After 7 led the game 25 -9 after the first quarter. In the second, Warriors switched to zone defense, a decision, which allowed them to play help defense and thus conserve fouls.

They also quickened the game to the detriment of the 'staminaless' veterans. After 7 led by only ten points at the half. In the third, the savvy veterans took control of the game once more also switching their zone defense from a 2-1-2 to a 1-2-2. This helped contain Warrior's guard Abeeku's threes which had begun falling. Once this defensive adjustment was made, the Warriors’ half court offense was almost non-existent. The game ended 73 - 56 in favour of After 7.

In other matches, the Braves of CEPS beat Fire Service 107 - 52 on Wednesday. Wizards beat Flames 54 - 53 and Reformers walloped Magic 68 - 33.
