Ghana midfielder Mubarak Wakaso passed his medical on Monday morning ahead of him joining Spanish top-flight side UD Las Palmas, GHANAsoccernet.com can exclusively reveal.
Ghana’s leading football news website exclusively revealed last week that his club Rubin Kazan were keen on sending the want-away Ghanaian on loan before the transfer window shuts tomorrow.
The Ghanaian midfielder is close to sealing his Spanish football comeback after securing a deal to return to the La Liga.
Las Palmas are set to sign the Ghana international from Rubin Kazan, on loan for the season with the option to buy the player.
He will sign the deal on Monday afternoon and will be presented to the media.
This comes after Wakaso’s proposed move to Saudi side Al Ittihad fell through because of the huge financial demands of his Russian club as the Ghanaian’s transfer fee.
Wakaso, 25, arrived in Spain in 2008 to play for Elche, where he played for three seasons.
In 2011 he went to Villarreal and then the next season to RCD Espanyol.
Russia picked him up in 2013 for seven million euros, where he signed a contract until June 2017.
Last season he played on loan at Scottish club Celtic, and also played at the 2014 World Cup with Ghana in the summer.
The 25-year-old’s conducted a medical in the Italian city of Milan by Bupa Arabia, the official healthcare partner of the Saudi Arabian side Al Ittihad, ahead of the move but it fell through.
Wakaso spent last season on loan at Celtic playing under Norwegian manager Ronny Deila, having made the move to Scotland from Russian side Rubin Kazan.
However, he struggled to make an impact at Celtic Park and made just eleven appearances for the boys, chipping in with a single goal, scored in the Europa League.
Wakaso is now in Milan, where he will undergo a medical and, all being well, put pen to paper with Al Ittihad.
The 25-year-old rose to prominence at Spanish sides Villarreal and Espanyol before being taken to Russia by Rubin Kazan in 2013.
